Great question, David! We already answered you via e-mail, but I'm going to post an answer here too for anyone reading the forum. We don't plan on adding an actual option to disable the click because it should turn off when you flip the silence switch on your device. I know all iPhones have this switch, iPad doesn't, and I don't know about iPod Touch. Even if your device doesn't have the silent switch, you can still turn down the volume. (Of course, if you're listening to music while using Stop Watch, you'd have to turn down the music too, but it doesn't sound like that applies to you. ) Again, we hadn't planned on adding an option for this, because the silence switch is a little more readily available. If you or any else would still like an option to turn off the beep despite this, just reply or e-mail us and we'll take it into consideration. Edit: After additional e-mails, we are going to take a no-beep option into consideration, but we just released an update for Stop Watch and are now working on a new app (not to mention school is starting soon), so we probably won't be able to add this for a some time. So for now, the best thing to do is just use the silence switch or the volume buttons. Thanks

We just finished submitting another update for Stop Watch. This update has many new exciting features. Along with general bug fixes and some small additions to the Stop Watch itself, we've also added timers and alarms! With iOS 4.0's new Local Notifications, you can be notified of any timers or alarms even if you're not in the app! We hope you all enjoy this largest update in Stop Watch history! As usual, if you have any questions, feel free to contact us here in the forum, or via e-mail at support@pencilbusters.com.

Yeah, yeah, I know, not exactly today's news. I've been busy reading and watching everything on iPhone 4 myself before I remembered to actually post about it. Anyways, it is going to be absolutely amazing. Before the keynote, I was pretty sure I wanted to get one, but after watching the keynote, there's no doubt in my mind. I am going to get one the day it comes out if at all possible. Here's a link to the keynote presentation of iPhone 4 from Apple's own website.

We finally submitted the update to Stop Watch. There are tons of new features but we decided not to add the timer functionality to this version since iPhone OS 4 will allow local notifications which will make things lots easier to code and much better for the user.

This is pretty neat. I've been hearing a lot of crap towards the iPad from other CS students here at school and I was afraid the iPad wouldn't take off like the iPhone did. Apparently I have nothing to worry about! Come to think of it, all the CS majors here are really into linux. The two philosophies of CS majors here is that if it's not linux, it automatically sucks; and if it looks sleek and amazing, it must not run amazing. I don't know where this false dichotomy of looks vs. capabilities comes from. I mean, can't a computer look good and run good at the same time? That's how I feel about Macs. It's the best of both worlds.

This article cites some rumors that iPhone OS 4.0 will allow multitasking. Now keep in mind that multitasking rumors were present before just about every major release of the iPhone OS, so take these with a grain of salt. But I think they have a little more credence this time around. The next major release of iPhone OS is due come summer, and I can't really think of any other major improvements that are needed. But whether these rumors are true or not, I personally have mixed feelings about third-party multitasking. First off, as a developer, multitasking would mean a lot more work trying to figure out how to get our apps to be apart of multitasking, if it doesn't just happen automatically. Second, there's a whole slew of problems that can arise with multitasking on a mobile device. Most of these problems are mentioned in the above article, but my biggest concern is security. The reason I love the iPhone soooo much is because of how safe it is. I don't have to worry about any malware getting on my iPhone and ruining it. Problems aside, third-party multitasking would present some wonderful opportunities and areas of growth for the iPhone and would effectively eliminate any complaints about the platform from "non-believers" and would reduce the iPhone's vulnerability to attacks from competitors. Anyways, just my opinion. Take a look at that article and decide for yourself! PS I know it's been a long time since I've posted. My lame excuse is two-fold. First off, I've been working non-stop on this huge Webcrawler project for one of my classes for the past three weeks. Second, I haven't really been able to find any good Apple articles that have sparked my interest lately. I know, I know... excuses only satisfy the giver... but still...

Most of this article is devoted to other things, but the part in the middle about the custom Apple silicon was especially interesting. I can't wait to see what comes with Apple chips after the iPad!
